Writing Your Own Affirmations for Better Results

Affirmations have changed my life in really good ways.  I first started listening to them around 20 years ago when my mom introduced me to Louise Hay’s book ‘You Can Heal Your Life’, and she gave me a cassette tape that had Louise’s affirmations on it.  I listened to the tape religiously every day and began to see changes in my life according to those affirmations.  I started having more confidence, getting healthier, doing more things that gave me joy and made many changes to improve the life I had created through lack of self-esteem.

It is said that listening to affirmations helps re-program the subconscious mind and because of this, we start acting in different ways than our old programs.  I believe this to be true through my experience.

Louise Hay’s and many other people’s affirmations are wonderful, but what if we were to write our own custom affirmations according to the changes we want to happen in our life?  Seems to me it would be that much more specific to us so would give better results. We could even record them so we could listen to them just like we listen to other people’s affirmations.

I wrote affirmations today for myself.  What I did was think of the things in my life that I wanted to change then wrote out positive statements in the present moment.  Here are some basic ideas to get you started but be sure to keep reading for a way to make them more effective):

  • I am focused on _____________________ (fill in the blank with pursuits you want to focus on such as MY CAREER, BECOMING THE BEST VERSION OF MYSELF, SELF LOVE, SELF IMPROVEMENT, MY BUSINESS, THE PRESENT MOMENT)
  • I am _______________________ (fill in the blank with qualities you want to improve such as STRONG, LOVING, UNDERSTANDING, LEAN, HEALTHY, MATURE, WEALTHY, ATTRACTIVE)
  • I attract ____________________ (fill in the blank with what you want to attract such as LOYALTY, APPRECIATION, ABUNDANCE, KINDNESS, COMMITMENT, HEALTH, PEACE, A NEW RED CORVETTE, THE PERFECT HOME, A LOVING COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP)
  • I deserve ___________________ (fill in the blank with how you’d like people to treat you such as RESPECT, LOYALTY, COMPASSION, KINDNESS, INTEGRITY)

The above ideas are worded simple but can be worded in whatever way you like, such as ‘I am a magnet to money’.  If you listen to affirmations you probably will have many ideas.  Just be sure the statements are positive and stated as present tense.  When we repeat affirmations in present tense, we are creating the feeling of having whatever it is now which is what helps attract situations and things to us.

If you add some passion or feeling to your statements, all the better.  Something like ‘I feel so grateful that I am healthy’ is more effective than ‘I am healthy’.

I’d love to hear your comments about this below.
