We all have something we want to change in our lives. Maybe we would like more security. Maybe we would like a loving relationship. Maybe we would like better health. Maybe we would like to be an entrepreneur, rather than have a 9 to 5 job.
The good news is that we can change these things. With some brainstorming and action steps we can begin the process of change.
A great way to do this is through journaling. First we can write about what it is we want to change and why. An example is: My job drains me, doesn’t recognize me, pay me enough, is monotonous and I have no time to accomplish other things in my life that I want to do. Yes, I know we shouldn’t focus on what we don’t want, but this will be the only time that we do. We need to write it out so that we understand what we do want.
After we write out what it is we want to change and why, then we can figure out what we do want. From the example above, it looks like the person wants to do something that fulfills them, wants to be paid well for it and still have time to do what they want to do in life. So that can be written down next along with any other details of what is wanted.
From there we can begin to brainstorm ideas about what we can do to get what we want. Examples: research ways to make money that are fulfilling (with your interests and skills in mind). What qualifications and/or skills are needed? Would it give enough time to have a work/life balance? Would it pay well enough? Would it provide enough security? Keep brainstorming and asking questions until you’ve hit an idea that inspires and motivates you.
From there, we can make a list of concrete action steps and begin the process of change.
The process of writing it all out makes it more concrete in our minds, and we are able to read it through as often as needed. We can add to it, change it and note our progress.
With all that said, I have created a journal specifically for this purpose. This journal is available on Zazzle and that means you can edit it for personalization (like the name Shauna Johnson). All of the text on the cover and back is editable. I’ve added my abstract chameleon art to it because chameleons are symbolic of fast change and adaptability. The back of the journal has suggestions for how to use it (shortened version of this post). Here is a photo and link to it, if you are interested:
