How to Make Chamomile-Infused Oil for Skin: 2 Easy Methods

Making chamomile-infused oil provides a soothing and aromatic oil that can benefit your skin. It can be used as-is directly on the skin or as an ingredient in homemade lotions and salves. Chamomile is calming, comforting, and has anti-inflammatory properties that soothes dry, red and irritated skin. It can soothe mild pain and promote healing. Chamomile-infused oil is gentle and suitable for all skin types. Here are two methods you can use to make chamomile infused oil:

  1. Sun Infusion Method:
    • Ingredients:
      • Dried chamomile flowers
      • Carrier oil (such as olive oil, sweet almond oil, or grapeseed oil)
      • Glass jar with a tight-fitting lid
    • Steps:
      1. Pack the dried chamomile flowers into the glass jar, leaving about 2 inches at the top.
      2. Add enough carrier oil to cover the flowers by at least one inch.
      3. Seal the jar tightly.
      4. Place the jar in a sunny location for at least 3-4 weeks. The sun gently heats the oil, allowing the chamomile’s aroma and properties to infuse into it.
      5. After three or more weeks, strain the oil using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
      6. Store the chamomile-infused oil in a dark glass bottle.
  2. Heat Infusion Method:
    • Ingredients:
      • Dried chamomile flowers
      • Carrier oil
      • Medium-sized slow cooker
    • Steps:
      1. Fill a jar with dried chamomile flowers, leaving about 2 inches at the top.
      2. Add enough carrier oil to cover the flowers by at least one inch.
      3. Seal the jar tightly.
      4. Fill the slow cooker about halfway with water and heat it to 120-140°F (49-60°C), then set it to the ‘low’ setting.
      5. Place the jar of chamomile and oil into the water bath.
      6. Keep the jar in the warm water for 4-8 hours to allow the chamomile to infuse into the oil.
      7. Strain the oil and transfer it to a glass bottle.

Remember to consult with your doctor before using chamomile, especially if you have any specific health concerns. Enjoy your homemade chamomile-infused oil!
