Please Share Your Thoughts And Experiences On Livelihood

Here I share some random thoughts on livelihood as an opening to reader comments on the subject.

I wish society was more about teaching people to expand on their gifts and passions, rather than pushing everyone to go for the money.

If we were taught from a young age to pursue our gifts and passions, I believe we would be fulfilled in life.

Because many of us are taught to go for the money, we end up unfulfilled. We may have money, but no time and hating what we do. Or we end up quitting the money thing to land in a simple less paying job just to ease stress. It can seem like we waste a good portion of life doing things we have no interest in just to have things and a lot of money. Is it worth the trade-off?

It’s not anyone’s fault. It’s just the way society has been. But at some point hopefully we ‘get it’ and make our livelihood about our gifts and passions. It can be a struggle due to the way society is set up, but so many options are available to us now to be whatever we want, thanks to the internet and various courses and information. It seems more and more people are creating a fulfilled life doing what they love now so maybe society is slowly changing.

What are your thoughts on this subject? Are you a person that has followed your gifts and passions to a fulfilling life? Or are you a person that has followed society and money? What is your experience with livelihood? The more of us that comment, the greater a resource this will be for people looking for help in this area.

Warmly, Monica

Here are a few of the products available with my art printed on them (by clicking an item you like, it will take you to the page where it’s available). They’d make great gifts to yourself or someone you love and would help support my dream of becoming a full-time writer and artist. Any purchase would be SO appreciated, but if you don’t want to or can’t, that’s totally fine. Just stopping by and reading my blog is a huge support.

  1. Cute dog mask!! Wish I wasn’t the starving artist. That said, I’m following my passion and making sure that lesson in deeply ingrained in children. One more left to go.
A huge pendulum swing is underway with more and more leaving the conforming corporate rat race and looking for true satisfaction in simpler things and following their passions.
    Nice to be introduced.
    Best wishes.

    1. Thank-you for the compliment on the dog mask! It’s wonderful to hear you are following your passion and ingraining it in your kids. I think that’s SO important. I agree with you about more and more people leaving the conforming corporate rat race for simpler things and I’m so glad the movement is here. Thank-you for reading and commenting!

  2. I would love to follow my passions and use them as a means for a sustainable living. Unfortunately, money is needed right away, and so I must compromise by doing something to earn a living while my passions are waiting for their moment.

  3. This topic is something I think about all the time. In the past I have struggled to break free from the voice which tells me I have wasted the time I spent at university getting qualifications that I don’t specifically use in my work now. Three years ago at the job I was working I heard a voice telling me I wanted to write. I have enjoyed writing stories since primary school, and love sharing stories with others in many different forms; music, poetry, spoken word, fiction.

I think people often think if they are doing something they are passionate about it will be easier than other jobs. Hard work is required in any work we find ourselves in, just as I am finding out editing my first book manuscript at the moment. If we want to change our career, or feel called in a different direction, it’s about pragmatically managing that transition at whatever stage of life we find ourselves in. We will have to work hard, but we can get there with perseverance and supportive people around us.

Thank you for sharing this. I hope you and your loved ones are well. ❤
